Accessibility Reviews

  • Purchases and free-to-use products:
All IT purchases made or otherwise acquired by the university must be reviewed for accessibility to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA as required by the ADA and Sections 508 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Accessibility Pre-Check:
The purpose of the pre-check is to support compliance documentation. In the pre-check, the following classifications will be sent through the ITPC process and not require a full accessibility evaluation:
    • The product is accessed by fewer than 25 people and does not have a public audience.
    • Products used for research that do not have a public audience.
    • Software that has a previous accessibility review.

If you would like consultation during the product selection process, email [email protected].

What You Can Do

  • You must provide accessibility information about the product you plan to purchase when you submit the ITPC form. Information about a product’s accessibility can usually be found in an Accessibility Statement and/or Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT or HECVAT). These can be uploaded or linked within Process Unity by using the Attachments Tab when filling out the request.
  • Contact the vendor if you can’t easily find accessibility information on their website.

Processing Time

  • An ITPC request submitted without accessibility information may be delayed, as additional information will be needed in order to perform the review.
  • Standard hardware and software used by one or two people usually pass through the process quickly.
  • Access levels in the ITPC process are used to identify user populations and help in the accessibility product review process. Because of this, it is very important that user information is filled out accurately.
